Budget friendly Type-C hub to try

With the new macbook products i hear people everyday saying how annoyed they are about the fact that they don’t have enough ports for all their USB devices and memory cards.

If you’re a photographer or videographer you might need more than 2 USB ports. and with cameras connecting still with micro USB cables you might need some help getting your camera updated to the latest firmware versions.

I tried the QacQoc type-c hub and card reader adapter and i must say it’s a game changer.

This device comes with the following ports:

  • 3 USB 3.0
  • SD card reader
  • MicroSd card reader
  • Hdmi port
  • Lan port
  • 1 Usb-c

In order to use it you don’t need any drivers, you just plug it and start using it. The fact that gives you so many extra ports for USB devices is great, especially for someone like me that needs to have my 2 external hard drives connected and my graphic tablet.

Downloading files and connecting new devices to your laptop with this device is working straight away, since there’s no delay from plugging a new cable in the hub and it coming up on your computer.

I will say that using all the ports at the same time,  will make the device go a bit warm, and can’t say yet if this might be a problem in the future for constant use or not, but i hope the company will address this issue.

The product comes in a nice package and includes a soft case to keep it safe while not using it. Also you have 4 colours to choose from:  rose-gold, silver, white and gold so it will match your laptop.

You can order them straight from the company website or from their amazon page and they are selling now at £75.99 and compared to other hubs that are out there, it’s worth every money because you get so much more in just one single device.

Spark – most exciting drone of the year?!

If you’ve been living under a rock you probably haven’t heard of the new DJI release – Spark.

Don’t except it to be more powerful than what DJI already has in store, but this is definitely one that got everyone excited and for the right reasons.

First of all is really TINY! So tiny that it can compete to your shiny iPhone 7plus, measuring only 143 x 143 x 55 mm and it weights only 300g.

It can only fly for about 16 minutes on a full battery charge and comes with a 12 megapixel camera, incorporating a 1/2.3 inch sensor and a wide f 2.6 lens.

I know what you are all thinking, that does not sound as exciting, especially if you’re in the market for a professional drone, but Spark was not designed to fulfil that role, as it only films in full HD at the moment and only has a 2 axis  mechanical stabilisation gimbal.

Why everyone is raving about is because is so tiny and you can control it without using a remote. Yeah, you read that right, it can be controlled with hand gestures. It also comes with 4 intelligent flight modes, as well as being able to trace and follow a selected subject from a fixed perspective.

Have i mentioned that is also available in multiple colours such as green, red, blue, yellow and white?

Don’t worry if you haven’t used a drone before because this will be the easiest thing to do ever, and can’t wait to get my hands on one.

At the moment they retail at about £519 for the standard pack or you can choose the fly more combo for just £699.

I can see a new drone in the series with more power in terms of speed and video quality, but kudos to DJI for realising something that can be used by anyone just to give them a taste of the drone fever.

I’ll let you guys have a look at the promotional video from DJI.

New Galaxy…Samsung Galaxy 8

After a not very successful year, Samsung finally announced a new phone. Thursday 29/03 they will be launching in New York a new phone model after their fail and having their previous Note 7 being recalled.

The new Galaxy S8 not only that promises to not catch on fire while charging but also comes with something that some of us are already used to. Bixby is their new added feature and it’s an artificially intelligent voice assistant that, they claim, is going to be different from Siri and Google Assistant.

On their official page they say “Bixby will be a new intelligent interface on our devices. Fundamentally different from other voice agents or assistants in the market, Bixby offers a deeper experience thanks to proficiency in these three properties:”

The idea behind it is that machines should be able to adapt to humans instead of the other way around it. Bixby claims to be more intelligent than any other voice assistant and will understand better the user’s needs without you having to remember exact phrases.

“We do have a bold vision of revolutionising the human-to-machine interface, but that vision won’t be realised overnight. Ambition takes time. Bixby will be our first step on a journey to completely open up new ways of interacting with your phone. At the launch of the Galaxy S8, a subset of pre-installed applications will be Bixby-enabled. This set will continue to expand over time. Our plan is to eventually release a tool (in SDK) to enable third-party developers to make their applications and services Bixby-enabled easily.” (source)

Apart from this new addition, the phone will also feature a no home button and a more sleek design and also a dual bluetooth option that will allow you to use 2 different headsets simultaneously.

Galaxy 8 will also have a fingerprint  recognition, face recognition, iris recognition a secure folder for all your important files and a Samsung pass that will register your passwords for different websites so you won’t have to type in your details when trying to login.

Probably one of the best feature is that the phone will be water resistant and the new Samsung DeX which will allow you to use your phone like a computer connecting it to an external display, keyboard or mouse.

Only time will tell if the battery issue has been solved and let’s hope this time Bixby won’t catch on fire.
